Five ways to do it

Start with what you will do in it.

Nearly every shed we sell is one of these, or two of them under one roof. Find yours and we start from there.

  • A customer workshop with both roller doors open and a car up on a hoist inside
    Most commonWorkshop

Lockable, with a roller door for the car or the project and a personal access door (PA door) for you. Add insulation and skylights if you will spend real hours in it.

Most are 6 to 9 metres wide and 6 to 12 long, with 3 metre walls so a hoist fits.Quote this one
  • Inside a customer man cave with classic cars, walls covered in vintage signs, and a bar under a mezzanine
    Your spaceMan Cave

Room for the cars, the bar, the signs and the pool table. Insulate it, add glass sliding doors and a mezzanine for the things you use twice a year.

Often a double garage footprint or bigger, with taller walls if you want a mezzanine.Quote this one
  • A custom shed with a brick front, timber-look double doors and windows, on a bush block

What you can choose

Built around how you will use it.

  • Doors

Roller doors wide enough for the machinery, plus a PA door for getting in without opening the big one.

  • Height

Enough clearance for a hoist, a truck or a mezzanine you can stand up in.

  • Awnings & lean-tos

Covered space down the side for the trailer or the wood pile.

  • Light

Windows, skylights and clear roof sheeting, so you are not working under a bulb at 2pm.

  • Mezzanine

A second level for storage, over part or all of the floor.

  • Clearspan

Wide open inside with no posts in the way, engineered for your site.

  • Colour

The full COLORBOND® range, including Matt, across roof, walls and trims.

What you get

A complete kit, plans for the permit, and people who build them.

We sell it as a kit, engineered for your site, with expert permit help, and three ways to build: yourself, as an owner-builder, or with a registered builder. Here is exactly where the lines are.

In the kit
  • A steel frame engineered by a certified engineer for your site and your wind rating.
  • Roof and wall sheeting in BlueScope COLORBOND® steel, Matt finish included if you like it, or ZINCALUME®, with gutters, downpipes and flashings in your colour.
  • High quality roller doors, the PA door, windows and mezzanine framing you chose, with every bolt, screw and bracket.
  • Engineering drawings and a certificate made for your site and your job, plus the plans you need for the permit.
Permit help
  • We can assist you through the building permit process.
  • Our permit team deals with councils, title searches and building surveyors every working day, with decades of experience behind it.
  • If you would rather handle the permit yourself, that is your call.
When you want a hand
  • Build it yourself, bring in builders and installers as an owner-builder, or have a registered builder manage the build. We can introduce builders, installers and concreters we have worked with for years.
  • The slab, the build and any old shed coming down are quoted by them, not assumed.
  • You choose who you engage. We make the introduction, and plenty of sheds are owner-built.

How it works

Great service, very attentive. They organised all design work and paperwork to present to our design committee, then the local council planning department.

We wanted quality, and being able to visit the Bayswater showroom and see the displays made the decision easy.

FAQ

Sheds & Workshops: your questions

Cannot see yours? Ask us when you request a quote, or just call. You will get a real answer from someone who has done it before.

What size shed do I need?

Start with the biggest thing that goes in it, add room to walk around it and open its doors, then think about what you will own in five years, because a shed is far cheaper to build big than to extend. Height is the one people get wrong: a hoist, a mezzanine or a caravan each set the wall height. Put your best guess in the quote form and we will size it with you.

Shed or garage?

Same steel, same engineering, different job. A garage is sized and fitted for cars: a roller door per bay, standard walls, usually beside the house. A shed is sized for what you do in it: a workshop, storage, a hobby, the machinery. If the main thing inside has a number plate, start on the garages page. If it is a bench, a boat or a project, you are in the right place.

Do I need a permit for a shed?

Almost always. Rules vary between councils and sometimes between streets. We can assist you through the building permit process. We are not the permit authority, but our permit team deals with councils, title searches and building surveyors every working day, and we bring decades of experience and knowledge to it. If you would rather handle the permit yourself, that is your call.

Can a shed be insulated?

Yes, roof or walls or both, and if it will be a workshop, a gym or a studio it is the option people wish they had ticked. Ask for it at quote stage so the framing suits it.

What is included in the kit?

Everything above the ground: the steel frame engineered for your site, the roof and wall sheeting, gutters, downpipes and flashings in your colour, the doors, windows and mezzanine framing you chose, every bolt and bracket, and the engineering drawings and certificate made for your site and your job, with the plans for the permit. The slab and the labour to put it up are separate, and we can refer builders and concreters for both.

Can I build it myself?

Yes. Plenty of our customers do, and plenty would rather not. We can arrange a registered builder we have worked with for years to take on the whole build, and a concreter for the slab. If you are an owner-builder, we can introduce builders and installers we have worked with for years. You engage them directly, so you stay in control.

Is it engineered for my site?

Yes. Every kit is engineered to Australian standards for your site, including your local wind and snow ratings, which is part of why the quote is tailored rather than pulled off a generic table.

What does a shed cost?

It depends on the size, the height, the doors, insulation, a mezzanine or an awning, and whether you build it yourself or have it built. Two sheds the same footprint can be very different jobs, which is why we quote rather than print a list. Tell us what it is for and your tailored quote comes back within one working day, with no obligation.

Do you do farm sheds?

Yes, and they have their own page: open-front machinery and hay sheds, drive-through bays and rural workshops in custom spans. See our farm sheds.
